About Luke

Luke Wotawa is a Los Angeles-based drummer and multi-instrumentalist with classical training and roots performing in the SoCal metal scene.

Bringing a trauma-informed approach and principles of recovery, Luke received training and state certification in March 2026 to be a Behavioral Health coach (License #MPSS-XBPKOQ) where lived experience can inspire hope for those ready for change.

Luke's grounded drum and music teaching style is supported with active listening and empathy, using a positive mindset to overcome challenges and establish accountability to actualize students goals in the lifestyle of a timeless musician.

Commuting for his education at MI Hollywood from 2022 to 2025, his Associates of Arts in Music - Drum Performance expanded his repertoire to be a versatile and well-rounded musician and not "just a metal drummer."

Current projects of note:

-Teaching 1 on 1 private drum and music lessons, in person and Zoom/Hybrid/Remote

-Session drummer (live and studio) for Ancestral Awakening, the LA based black metal trio formed in 2008

-Drummer for country group, Emery Johnson & the Reid Family Band

-Drumming as a member of Lover Boy Wonder, an up and coming female led indie alternative band

-Light Being (on all instruments) new music soon, and MERCH for the first time ever!

A southern CA native, Luke has been an avid skateboarder since childhood, a passionate home cook, and a student of photography. Beside music, he works in behavioral health and volunteers in San Pedro for wildlife and environmental conservation so future generations can appreciate nature's beauty, it's our responsibility to keep it in balance!

Luke knows from experience that music can be a deeply healing creative experience, and he endeavors to bring that knowledge into all of his work. He is passionate about using music as a tool for managing mental health and promoting collaboration at the highest levels of musicianship.

Luke is available for session work, live performances, and one-on-one drum lessons. He embraces all genres of music and encourages others to let their love for music guide them.

Arguably the album’s best track “Wish, Will, and Desire” has one of the steadiest beats on the whole album and consistently comes at us with a swelling chorus and stellar leads.

The gritty yet piercing riffs ring and ravage... as the tempos change and the drumming rocks, they pulse with tremendous vibrancy too... [A Way Into Dreams]  is carefully crafted, often elaborate, with an attention to detail. I mean to say that it feels honest, and because of that it’s moving, and easy to get lost in.
